Content creator and media personality Cheptoek Boyo recently shared her memories of being on set with Ugandan icon Bobi Wine for his music video “Little Things You Do,” featuring Wahu and produced by Lupita Nyong’o, eight years ago.
Boyo, then 21, found herself thrust into the fast-paced world of music video production, captivated by the efficiency of the crew and the whirlwind atmosphere on set.
“I was fascinated by how things worked, how fast the set moved, and how efficient the crew was. I was obsessed with how music videos are produced,” she recalls.
Despite feeling unprepared for her role as the lead girl in the video, Boyo embraced the challenge wholeheartedly.
Boyo found support and guidance from Bobi Wine, who was “supportive and accommodating” throughout the shoot.
She also shared her admiration for Wahu Kagwe’s music and her star-struck moment when she met her.
Lupita Nyong’o’s presence as a stylist on set left a lasting impression on Boyo, inspiring her with her commanding presence.
However, Boyo’s journey as a video vixen came with challenges, especially navigating the expectations of her strict father while still in college.
Despite agreeing to do the video knowing her father would disapprove, Boyo’s scenes did not make it into the final cut, sparing her from difficult questions.
Watching the finished music video brought a sense of relief to Boyo. “Some things you do in your early 20s, you don’t realize the impact until you’re older,” she reflected.
Despite her brief stint as a video vixen, Boyo sees it as part of her journey, acknowledging the lessons she learned and the humility she gained.
Now a seasoned content creator with over a decade of experience in the media industry, Boyo’s journey continues to evolve.
“It is a challenging yet fulfilling journey for me… I firmly believe that my purpose in this world is to tell people’s stories,” she shared, highlighting her dedication to her craft and unwavering passion for storytelling.
