Top police officers from Nyanza region visited the family of slain teacher Albert Ojwang to condole with them in their Homabay home.
Ojwang was killed at the Nairobi Central Police station on June 7 hours after his arrest from Homabay.
The incident has caused a national uproar and forced the Deputy Inspector General of Kenya police Eliud Lagat to step aside pending investigations.
On Thursday, a team of police commanders led bt the regional police boss Gisiri Nyamohanga visited the home in Kakoth village and offered their condolences for the incident.
They offered food to the family and assured them of security in the mourning period.
Lagat was the complainant in the saga that led to the killing of Ojwang.
He was on Thursday grilled by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority on the issue.
IPOA chairman Isaak Hassan said that as of Wednesday June 18 a total of 20 police officers including the Central Police Station Deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS), inspector Samuel Ng’ang’a have recorded statements, with two of them including OCS Samson Talaam, and constable James Mukhwana having been arraigned.
They were all detained for two weeks pending outcome of the probe.
Ng’ang’a was arrested Tuesday and produced at the Kahawa West Law Courts before being detained at Muthaiga Police Station.
Similarly, Hassan said, civilians Kelvin Mutisya Mutava who allegedly interfered with the CCTV footage and three others namely Brian Mwaniki Njue, Collins Karani, and Gin Ammitou, who were inmates at the Central Police Station on the material day, were presented in various courts.
