The Court of Appeal has granted the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) the green light to investigate the bank accounts of former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, amid allegations of abuse of office during his time in office.
This decision follows Kidero’s earlier petition aimed at blocking the commission from accessing his financial records.
The EACC claims that Kidero improperly accumulated millions during his tenure as governor and during his eight-year stint as Managing Director of Mumias Sugar Company.
In his appeal, Kidero contended that the EACC exceeded its authority by investigating him and seeking access to his six bank accounts.
However, a ruling by a three-judge panel on Friday, September 20, confirmed that the EACC could proceed with its investigations to ascertain whether Kidero was engaged in any irregular activities.
Kidero initially approached the High Court in 2016 after the EACC secured orders from the Chief Magistrate’s court to examine his accounts.
However, the High Court dismissed his application, leading him to appeal the decision in the Court of Appeal.
