Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua appeared in the National Assembly today to defend himself against allegations of impeachment, receiving two hours to present his case ahead of the anticipated vote.
During his address, Gachagua reiterated a statement he had made earlier in the week.
He reflected on his earlier experiences during a previous administration when he faced arrest on what he described as fabricated charges for supporting President William Ruto against the prevailing government.
Gachagua expressed gratitude towards Gladys Shollei, who he said stood by him during his ordeal.
“I remember when I was arrested, Gladys came to the DCI headquarters, bringing me tea and lunch. She offered her support and comfort,” he recounted.
“At court, she played a crucial role in coordinating the collection of 12.5 billion shillings for my cash bail.
For four days, she visited me in Gigiri with kind words.”
In a poignant moment, Gachagua acknowledged past tensions but expressed appreciation for Shollei’s support, stating, “Despite what you have said, my sister, I remember the one good thing you did for me.
I love you and cherish you.”
As the assembly prepares to vote, Gachagua’s remarks highlight not only his defense but also an appeal to camaraderie amid political strife.
