Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has been summoned by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for questioning regarding allegations of incitement and money laundering.
The summons, delivered in a formal letter, requires the MP to appear at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road in Nairobi on Wednesday, July 24th, at 9:00 AM.
Investigators seek Babu Owino’s testimony concerning accusations of inciting violence against law enforcement officers and his alleged involvement in financial crimes.
Inspector General Eunice Njeri’s directive stated, “I request you, Babu Owino, to report to me at the police station at DCI headquarters, Nairobi County, on July 24th at 3:00 PM and provide a comprehensive statement regarding this investigation.
I believe you may possess pertinent information that could aid our inquiries.”
Failure to comply with the summons could lead to legal consequences for the MP.
This development occurs amidst Babu Owino’s vocal opposition to President William Ruto’s administration.
Recently, during a public address in Homa Bay County on Monday, Babu Owino voiced his support for youth demonstrations.
“To the Gen Z of this country, we are proud of you, we endorse your actions, and we recognize the distinction between President William Ruto and Gen Z,” stated Babu Owino.
The summons underscores heightened scrutiny of political figures in Kenya and highlights ongoing tensions between government authorities and vocal opposition figures like Babu Owino.
As the investigation progresses, stakeholders await further developments regarding the allegations against the embattled MP.
