Ex-Nairobi Senatorial Aspirant Gabriel Bukachi Convicted For Forgery

A former Nairobi Senatorial aspirant Gabriel Bukachi Chapia was convicted for forging academic certificates and fraudulently acquiring public funds.

Chapia was convicted on his own plea of guilt following a failed attempt by the prosecution to withdraw the charges against him in 2024.

This was a victory for the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) which handled the case.

Chapia was convicted on September 19, 2025 by magistrate Charles Ondieki at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Law Courts after entering a plea bargain agreement with the prosecution.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of forgery of academic certificates, contrary to sections 345 and 349 of the Penal Code, and two counts of fraudulent acquisition of public property, contrary to section 45(1)(a) as read with section 48 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
