A family in Chebarema village, Kabartegan location, Bureti, Kericho County, is grappling with the loss of their home after a devastating fire destroyed it on Sunday night.
The fire broke out while the family, led by Gideon Koech, was attending church services.
“We were not at home when the fire started, so we do not know what caused it.
The exact cause remains a mystery,” Koech said.
The blaze was first spotted by local villagers, who noticed thick smoke emerging from the residence.
They quickly raised the alarm and attempted to control the fire, but their efforts were in vain.
By the time emergency services arrived, the house had already been consumed by the flames.
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, as the family was not present at the scene.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern for the Koech family.
Earlier this year, their home was also set on fire, and another house they were building was similarly destroyed.
Additionally, Koech mentioned that his parents’ house faced a similar fate in a separate fire.
“It’s been a difficult year for us.
We’ve lost multiple properties to fire, and it feels like we’re being targeted,” Koech lamented.
The family is now left without a home and is seeking assistance from the community and authorities.
Local officials are expected to investigate the repeated incidents to determine if there is a common cause or if any malicious intent is involved.
In the meantime, the Koech family faces the daunting task of rebuilding their lives from the ashes of these unfortunate events.
