Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has encouraged farmers to make the most of the forthcoming livestock breed improvement program, aimed at elevating the quality of dairy products and bolstering income for dairy farmers.
Speaking at the 99th Edition of the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show in Eldoret, CS Linturi emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the livestock and dairy sector through a Livestock Breed Improvement Regime.

In his address, he stressed the importance of farmers investing in their animals by providing proper feed and care to enhance product quality.
According to him, pricing will be determined by factors such as fat content in milk.
“We aim to ensure farmers fully capitalize on this regime, not only to improve milk quality but also to diversify into products like cheese and butter through processing and value addition,” CS Linturi stated.
He further highlighted the significance of farmers heeding the president’s call to boost food production and urged them to seize the opportunity presented by the upcoming long rain season (March-April-May) to prepare their farms adequately for planting, ensuring a bountiful harvest.
CS Linturi reassured farmers of the ministry’s commitment to timely distribution of fertilizers, adding that measures have been put in place to assist farmers in managing post-harvest losses, including providing driers for proper drying of cereals to ensure safe and extended storage.
