Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizens Services, Prof. Julius Bitok, has announced plans to significantly reduce the waiting time for Kenyans applying for passports.
Bitok revealed that President William Ruto has instructed the immigration department to ensure swift passport processing to eliminate the prolonged delays experienced by applicants.
“President Ruto ordered me to ensure timely issuance of passports to Kenyans.
He has coordinated with Ndindi Nyoro to allocate sufficient resources for streamlining the process.
Within the next three months, we aim to eradicate delays and ensure all applicants receive their passports within a month,” stated Bitok.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to facilitating international travel opportunities for Kenyans, Bitok emphasized the president’s eagerness to expedite the passport issuance process.
This announcement follows repeated instances of delays at the passport processing center, causing inconvenience for applicants despite prior assurances from the government.
Many Kenyans intending to travel abroad have been compelled to reschedule or cancel their plans due to the persistent delays encountered at the immigration desk.
Attributing the delays to technical issues with the printing machine, the government has pledged efforts to resolve the problem.
However, these promises have yet to materialize into tangible improvements in the passport issuance timeline.
