The Finance Bill 2024, which has been the center of nationwide protests, has successfully passed through Parliament and is now set for Presidential Assent to become law.
This development occurred after the majority of Members of Parliament (MPs) voted to approve a report from the Whole House.
This report included amendments to the Bill that had ignited widespread demonstrations across the country.
During the Third Reading of the Bill on Tuesday, the vote count revealed that 195 MPs were in favor of the Bill, 106 opposed it, and there were three invalid votes.
“The results of the division are as follows: yes 195, No, 106, spoilt 3.
The ayes have it,” Speaker Wetangula announced.
In response to the announcement, MPs from the Azimio opposition coalition began chanting in protest against the Bill and subsequently staged a walkout.
