Police are interrogating five-night guards after a gang of about 20 raided a coffee factory in Kandara, Muranga County, and stole 60 bags of cherries.
The gang raided Muruka Main Coffee Factory and held the guards on duty hostage before they raided a store and grabbed the cherries.
The gang used motorcycles they had come with to escape with the loot.
The guards who were on duty during the Wednesday, June 12 incident were arrested for interrogation.
Police said they are looking for more suspects in the incident.
Cases of stealing of coffee cherries are common in the area amid operations to address the menace.
This has discouraged some farmers who see it as a loss given the products are not insured at the time they are stolen.
Elsewhere in Juja, Kiambu County, a gang raided a homestead and stole five goats and three sheep.
The herdsman at the farm said he had left the animals unattended and walked about 200 meters away when he saw a vehicle speed off fro where they were feeding.
He later realized the eight animals had been stolen. Police say they are investigating the incident.
