Former Embu North DCIO Found Guilty Of Rape

Jerevasio Njeru, the former Embu North DCIO, has been convicted by the High Court on charges of raping a suspect within his office.

This decision overturns a previous ruling by a magistrate that had acquitted him.

The specific charge against Njeru dates back to May 31, 2020, around 5 pm, when he allegedly raped a 42-year-old woman at Manyatta Police Station.

The High Court, in its reconsideration of the case, affirmed that the evidence presented supports the charges of rape.

The court criticized the earlier magistrate’s decision, highlighting a disregard for compelling DNA evidence that unequivocally linked Njeru to the crime.

This oversight was deemed as causing significant injustice to the complainant, as it resulted in the acquittal of the former officer.

The judge emphasized that Njeru had manipulated the situation, enticing the complainant into his office and exploiting her vulnerability, given their hierarchical relationship.

This abuse of power was compounded by the expectation that the victim would not report the incident.
