Jane Waigwe Kimani, wife of former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, appeared in court on Tuesday to face charges related to a Sh.562 million corruption case in Murang’a County.
The charges stem from alleged unlawful contracts for media services that took place between 2014 and 2017.
Kimani was brought before Milimani Anti-Corruption Magistrate Victor Wakhumile, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included conspiracy to commit corruption.
The charges are related to contracts for media services with Top Image Media Consultant Limited, totaling over Sh.351 million.
Alongside Kimani, her brother, David Maina Kiama, was also charged.
After their court appearance, both were released on a bond of Ksh.5 million or a cash bail of Sh.1 million.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) stated that the accused are required to surrender their travel documents and are not allowed to leave the country without court approval.
Meanwhile, former Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has his own set of legal troubles.
He recently spent a night in Industrial Area Prison after failing to meet a KSh. 20 million bond or the alternative Sh. 10 million cash bail.
His charges include abuse of office, conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property, and money laundering, among others—all of which he has denied.
