Gachagua Cautions Winnie Odinga and Raila Junior Against Joining Ruto-Backed Parties

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned Winnie Odinga and Raila Odinga Junior against seeking elective seats on political party tickets associated with President William Ruto.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 28, the former Deputy President argued that Raila Junior had a strong chance of winning a parliamentary seat in Nairobi but risked losing if he contested under a party linked to the Head of State.

Gachagua maintained that Raila Junior’s political prospects would depend significantly on the party ticket he chose for the 2027 General Election.

“I have seen the son of late Raila Odinga, Raila Junior, wants to contest in Nairobi, and he stands a good chance. But I can tell you as sure as December 25 is Christmas, if he comes under William Ruto, he will not get that seat,” Gachagua said.

The DCP leader also weighed in on Winnie Odinga’s political ambitions, arguing that she would have a better chance of winning if she contested under DCP, Linda Mwananchi or the Wiper Democratic Movement.

However, he dismissed her prospects if she opted to run on a ticket associated with Ruto and Oburu Oginga.

Gachagua further claimed that a political alliance bringing together himself, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino would secure a sweeping victory in Nairobi during the 2027 elections.

He predicted that the proposed alliance would win most of the county’s votes and capture all 17 elective seats.

Winnie Odinga Targets Nairobi Senate Seat

Winnie announced on October 15 that she would contest the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP said her decision was influenced by the evolving political landscape, particularly Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s reported ambitions to pursue a higher political office.

She said Sifuna’s possible departure from the Senate race presented an opportunity for her to seek the seat.

“As Edwin Sifuna seeks a higher office, I see an opportunity in Nairobi, which is why I have decided to vie for the Nairobi County Senate seat,” Winnie stated.

Meanwhile, Raila Junior has declared his intention to contest the Kibra parliamentary seat in the next general election.

Gachagua’s remarks come as political leaders and prospective candidates position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls, with party affiliations and coalition arrangements emerging as key considerations in the race for elective positions.
