Gachagua Urges New Cabinet Secretaries To Boost Oversight

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries to intensify their efforts and closely oversee operations within their ministries.

Speaking at the conclusion of a two-day induction at the National Defence College’s International Peace and Support Training Centre in Nairobi, Gachagua urged the CSs to embrace a “hen mentality.”

He highlighted the need for Cabinet Secretaries to actively inspect and monitor the work conducted by their officials on the ground.

Gachagua assured the CSs of his and President William Ruto’s support during these inspections.

“As you begin your roles in your respective ministries, make it a priority to visit the field and see firsthand what your officials are accomplishing.

If you require higher visibility, I am here to assist, and if even greater support is needed, the President is ready to back you up,” Gachagua said.

He illustrated the “hen mentality” by contrasting the noisy hen with the silent cow.

While the hen noisily announces each small egg it lays, the cow quietly produces substantial milk, which often goes unnoticed.

Let’s adopt the hen mentality in this administration.

The hen makes a fuss over a small egg, ensuring everyone knows about it, while the cow, despite producing a significant amount of milk, remains silent,” Gachagua explained.

“Whatever progress you make in your ministry, make sure it is known.”
