Gold Miner Dies After Alleged Assault During Dispute At Siaya Mining Site

A 35-year-old man died after he was allegedly assaulted during a disagreement at a gold mining site in Uyawi, Bondo Sub-County, Siaya County.

The incident occurred at about 9pm on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Domba Agenda gold mining site in Uyawi Sub-location, Central Sakwa Location.

The deceased was identified as Zachary Okeyo Odhiambo, who was reportedly working at the mining site.

According to police, Okeyo was involved in a disagreement with a fellow worker, during which Angango allegedly hit him.

The 35-year-old reportedly fell unconscious following the incident, prompting his workmates to rush him to Uyawi Sub-County Hospital.

He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers from Bondo Police Station visited the scene and began investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the assailant allegedly fled the mining site after Okeyo fell unconscious.

The deceased’s body had no visible external physical injuries and was moved to Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Police are pursuing the suspect as investigations continue.
