The government wants to make more passports this year.
Last year, they made 533,000 passports.
But this year, they plan to make at least one million.
Julius Bitok, who works for Immigration and Citizen Services, shared this goal.
He said they got two new machines to print passports at Nyayo House.
These machines can make about 600 passports every hour.
Bitok thinks these machines will help make passports faster.
He said people won’t have to wait more than 14 days for their passports anymore.
They’re starting to use the new machines next week.
Bitok is confident they won’t have delays anymore because they have enough money to buy passport booklets and cover other costs.
Bitok also talked about ID cards. The government wants to give out over 3 million ID cards soon.
They want to give 1.2 million digital national ID cards to new applicants.
Plus, they want to give 1.6 million duplicate IDs. They’ve already given out 733,000 Maisha cards.
The government will stop checking people’s backgrounds for IDs in Northern Kenya and other border areas.
President William Ruto ordered this.
Bitok said they’re adding more services to the eCitizen website.
They’re going from 16,000 to 20,000 services.
They hope more than one million people will use the website every day.
They think they’ll make about Ksh1 billion every day from the website.
Bitok thinks these goals are reachable.
He said they’ve been working hard to make their systems better.
They’re also trying to make it easier for people to use the government’s services.
The government also wants to make more money from electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA).
After President Ruto banned visas, they hope at least 5 million people will visit the country.
