Narok County Commissioner (CC) Kipkech Lotiatia announced that the government will forcibly evacuate residents in flood- and mudslide-prone areas if they refuse to follow evacuation orders during this flood season.
Speaking at the Sarova Lodge in Maasai Mara, Lotiatia emphasized that the government is ready to use force to move people living near flood-prone rivers and other hazardous areas.
He stressed the importance of residents taking safety precautions to prevent loss of life and property.
Lotiatia specifically advised tourist camps located near rivers at risk of flooding to move to safer locations to avoid potential disasters.
He also urged business owners and residents in Narok Town to stay alert, as the dams in Nkareta and Olopito in Narok North sub-county could overflow due to recent rains.
“The state will employ force to evacuate people living in areas prone to floods and mudslides if they don’t heed the government’s directives,” said the commissioner.
Residents were also reminded to report emergencies using the Toll-Free line: 0800722984.
