A herder was shot and killed after he confronted with gunmen who had stolen his herd of camels in a village in

Police said the incident happened in Nasuroi village on Monday.

His colleague who was herding another herd of camels in the area told police they spotted three camels that had gone missing from Archer’s Post livestock market.

The two approached the custodians but they became wild and one shot at him as he tried to escape but the bullet hit the deceased identified as Nkorot Ngathban.

He died on the spot as the other suspected thieves escaped the scene.

Police responded and recovered three camels and detained them at the local police station pending identification.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy. No arrest has been made so far.

Such attacks are common in the area amid calls to address the trend worsened by illegal firearms in the wrong hands.

An operation is ongoing in the area to get rid of such weapons.

Meanwhile, police in Garbatulla, Isiolo are investigating an incident in which a pillion passenger collapsed and died along Kinna-Kulamawe road.

The deceased identified as Pinias Mutethia, 28 was on board a motorcycle heading towards Bakaja direction when he developed breathing problems and dizziness and requested to alight.

He sat down as the rider went to seek assistance but on coming back he was found lying dead.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
