Actor Jamie Foxx is now at the center of a legal battle as he confronts charges of sexual assault and battery in a lawsuit recently filed with the New York State Supreme Court.
The complaint, obtained by CNN, alleges that the incident took place in 2015 at Catch NYC, a popular restaurant in New York City.
CNN has attempted to contact representatives for Jamie Foxx as well as the attorney representing the plaintiff, known as Jane Doe, but there has been no response at the time of reporting.
According to the lawsuit, Foxx is accused of intentionally and without consent using force to inappropriately touch the plaintiff, involving acts such as groping her breasts and genitals.
The complaint suggests that Foxx appeared to be “intoxicated” during the incident.
As a consequence of the alleged misconduct, the plaintiff claims to have endured and continues to suffer from
“physical and emotional injuries, anxiety, distress, embarrassment, and economic harm.
Seeking an unspecified amount in damages, the lawsuit also targets the parent company of Catch NYC, Catch Hospitality Group, along with other related entities.
The plaintiff alleges negligent hiring, training, and supervision on the part of these entities.
At the time of reporting, representatives for Catch Hospitality Group were not available for comment.
This legal action operates under the New York Adult Survivors Act, which came into effect in late November 2022.
The act permits adult survivors of sexual abuse to file lawsuits against their abusers in New York, even if the statute of limitations on their claims has expired.
Notably, this law provides a one-year window for survivors to pursue legal action, and it is set to expire soon.
It’s worth mentioning that Jamie Foxx experienced a medical episode earlier this year, resulting in hospitalization in Atlanta for an undisclosed condition.
The Oscar-winner publicly addressed his recovery for the first time in July.
