Jeff Mwathi Death; Probe File Submitted To The ODPP For Perusal And Advice

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations completed investigations into the death of Jeff Mwathi, 23, who died on February 22, 2023, in unclear circumstances.

This is after the homicide department, which has been investigating the incident received an autopsy report from the government Pathologist and the government Chemist, following a fresh probe into the death as ordered by the DCI Director, Mohamed Amin.

The probe team has apparently asked the DPP to act on various findings they found in the murder of the slain interior designer, officials aware of the recommendations said.

The DCI refused to say what they had recommended to the DPP for action.

“The file is now complete and has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions this evening, for perusal and advice,” the DCI said.

A second post-mortem conducted on Jeff established he died due to severe head and limb injuries.

The report from a government chemist also sought to establish if he was sexually molested.

The DCI refused to divulge what was found out.

Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor established that he had severe head injuries.

He also had fractures on the upper and lower limbs and on his neck.

l have established that he had severe head injuries that almost raptured the skull,” said the pathologist.

Detectives from the homicide department were part of the team that led the exhumation and fresh autopsy of the body which had been buried at his parents’ home in Likia, Njoro Sub-County, in Nakuru.

It was exhumed on March 31, 2023, and later reburied.

The fresh post-mortem, coming hours after the body was exhumed, was also witnessed by family members.

After the team visited the scene for reconstruction and forensic analysis they found signs of a struggle inside Mugithi musician Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo’s house.

The investigators, in ruling out suicide, believe that Jeff was murdered before he was thrown off to cover up and make it look like suicide.

Initially, it was recorded that Jeff jumped off from the window of the bedroom, but that was ruled out as it is impossible for an adult to fit into the tight window frames of the window.

Detectives said they are now progressing to the second phase of the investigations where several persons of interest were

interrogated and appropriate recommendations made to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

All five persons who were at DJ Fatxo’s house when the incident happened were grilled.

Fatxo, who termed Jeff his good friend, has since denied involvement in his death and said he would cooperate with investigators.

He told the media on March 12 that he was the one who reported to the police about Jeff’s disappearance on the morning he died.

This was after he left in the company of three ladies but returned hours later but did not find Jeff in the house.
