Paul Julius Nunda, widely known as Jua Cali, is a Kenyan hip-hop rapper who has left an indelible mark on the East African music scene. Born on September 12, 1979, Jua Cali’s journey from the streets of Eastlands, Nairobi, to becoming a household name is a testament to his musical prowess.
Early Life
Raised in a strict Catholic household in California Estate, Nairobi, Jua Cali’s parents, Doreen and the late Evans Onditi, were both educators. Encouraged by his elder brother Christopher Sati, Jua Cali discovered his passion for rap at the age of 10. Despite his introverted nature, his love for music steadily grew.
Jua Cali’s educational journey took him through Ainsworth Primary School, Shepherds Junior Buruburu, Jamuhuri High School, and Kenya Christian Industrial Training Institute (K.C.I.T.I) in Eastleigh, where he earned a diploma in Information Technology. Basketball was also a pursuit, fueled by dreams of making it to the Kenyan National Basketball Team.
