Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka revealed on Saturday afternoon that he had sent a letter to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, urging for the smooth and effective implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
Speaking at a wedding ceremony in Limuru, Kiambu County, Kalonzo expressed concerns that Odinga’s recent agreement with President William Ruto might negatively impact the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Kalonzo, an Azimio principal, noted that while the shortlisting of candidates for the IEBC positions was complete, it was crucial to ensure transparency and fairness in the selection of the new commissioners.
“The selection panel must nominate candidates fairly and evenly. When I was discussing the NADCO report with Kikuyu MP, I emphasized the need for consultation and consensus,” Kalonzo said.
“I expected Raila to support me throughout, but now I have written to him because we need to address these issues and avoid any confusion,” he added.
During his address, Kalonzo also criticized President Ruto’s governance style, accusing him of neglecting critical issues affecting the Kenyan people.
He claimed that Kenya’s global standing had significantly declined since Ruto took office in 2022.
Kalonzo pointed to the deteriorating state of education and the increasing number of abductions in the country as major concerns.
“As a country, we’ve reached a point where no one, especially those in leadership, seems to know where Kenya is headed. But we remain a loyal people’s opposition,” Kalonzo stated.
The Wiper Party leader also called on the government to respect court orders and provide proof that the two Adani deals were indeed cancelled, as directed by President Ruto.
“We went to court to challenge the government’s deal with Adani, and we won, but the matter isn’t over because the government has not complied with the court’s orders by providing documents showing that the deal was terminated,” Kalonzo explained.
