Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has admitted attempting to help one of her campaign supporters join the National Police Service (NPS) by falsifying a Form Four certificate.
Speaking during an interview on Friday, October 23, 2026, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) senator said the supporter lacked the required secondary school certificate, prompting them to alter a document to facilitate her recruitment.
According to Nyamu, the woman proceeded to the Police Training College in Kiganjo for training but was later arrested alongside 17 other recruits over forged documents.
“I recently tried to help a very staunch campaigner of mine join the police force. She did not have a Form Four certificate, so we doctored it,” Nyamu said.
She added that the supporter contacted her while at a police station after the incident came to light.
Nyamu said the recruits found with fraudulent documents were subsequently dismissed from the training college.
“She called me while at a police station, and we were so happy that she had joined the police service. All those who had fake documents at Kiganjo were sent away,” she stated.
Previous case involving a forged academic certificate
Nyamu’s remarks come weeks after a former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) assistant elections officer was convicted of presenting a fake academic certificate.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 21, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said George Kipyatich Kibor had been fined KSh80,000 after being found guilty of uttering a false document.

The commission added that Kibor would serve an eight-month prison sentence if he failed to pay the fine.
According to the EACC, the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court delivered its judgment on September 17, 2026, finding Kibor guilty of presenting a forged Bachelor of Business Management degree in Finance and Banking, purportedly issued by Moi University.
The certificate was allegedly submitted in support of his application for promotion from IEBC Grade 8 to Grade 7.
Kibor was arrested and charged before the court on March 10, 2026, with forgery of a degree certificate and uttering a false document.
