Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua has firmly stated that she will not collaborate with President William Ruto.
During a live interview on a local TV station on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Karua responded to a question from a Twitter user, who inquired if she would consider accepting a role if offered by Ruto.
Karua emphasized that working with Ruto would be impossible for her.
The Twitter user, known as Gathoronjo1, asked Karua if she would have turned down a proposal from Ruto, considering that she had previously agreed to serve as Raila Odinga’s deputy.
Karua replied that Ruto’s approach to governance, where he is involved in all aspects, makes it difficult for others to perform their duties effectively.
She criticized Ruto’s style of leadership, stating, “He is the minister for everything and wouldn’t let anyone do their job.”
Karua expressed that she finds working with Raila Odinga more manageable, noting that Odinga handles differences constructively and is easier to work with.
“I wouldn’t work for William Ruto, no matter the changes or quality of people he brings in.
I have worked with such individuals in parliament and know from experience that working with Raila is more effective.
He is open to discussions and resolving disagreements,” Karua said.
Her comments come in the wake of recent nominations of members from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to President Ruto’s diverse cabinet.
Notable ODM members who have been appointed include:
ODM Chairman John Mbadi, nominated for the Ministry of National Treasury and Economic Planning.
James Opiyo Wandayi, the National Assembly Minority Leader and ODM Secretary of Political Affairs, nominated for the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
Hassan Joho, ODM Deputy Party Leader and former Mombasa County Governor, nominated for the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs.
Wycliffe Oparanya, former Kakamega County Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader, nominated for the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development.
Karua’s refusal to work with Ruto highlights her strong preference for collaboration within the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition and underscores ongoing political dynamics and alliances.
