The Board of Directors of KenGen has appointed Alfred Agoi Masadia, the former Member of Parliament for Sabatia, as the new Chairman of the company.
The appointment was made during a meeting on Thursday, December 5, 2024, and was announced in a notice shared on Friday.
Before being appointed Chairman, Agoi had served as a Non-Executive Director at KenGen since August 8, 2024.
The Board highlighted his extensive experience in public policy, governance, and administration, noting that his strategic leadership would greatly benefit the company.
They expressed confidence in his ability to steer the Board in executing its oversight responsibilities and guiding KenGen in maintaining its position as Africa’s leading geothermal energy producer.
“Agoi is committed to delivering the KenGen G2G 2024-2034 Strategy and ensuring the provision of the vital electrical energy needed to power and transform the Kenyan economy,” the Board stated.
“We are pleased to welcome Hon. Alfred Agoi as the new Chairman of the KenGen Board.”
In his response, Agoi thanked President William Ruto and the entire KenGen team for the trust placed in him.
He also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors, including Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba Migos and the immediate former Chairman, Engineer Frank Konuche.
“I understand the significance of this role, and I am committed to working closely with the Board, KenGen family, and all stakeholders to ensure the company operates efficiently and continues to add value,” Agoi said.
“Together, we will achieve even greater success.
We will continue to lead in the generation of green energy, supporting the Kenya Kwanza Transformation Agenda under President William Ruto’s leadership.
I am truly grateful for this incredible opportunity.”
Agoi, aged 59, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Government and a Master’s in Business Administration with a focus on Strategic Management, both from the University of Nairobi.
He has held key positions in the private sector, including Marketing Director at Ideal Office Products Limited and Chief Executive Officer at Kingsway Business Systems Limited.
He served as the Member of Parliament for Sabatia Constituency for two terms from 2013 to 2022, where he was a member of several Parliamentary Committees, including the Budget Appropriations Committee, Health Committee, Regional Integration Committee, and the Special Funds Accounts Committee.
Agoi ran for the Vihiga County gubernatorial seat in 2022 under the Amani National Congress (ANC) but was defeated by Governor Wilberforce Otichilo.
