Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has introduced new departure and return schedules for trains traveling from Kisumu.
The updated schedule, announced on Tuesday, December 31, states that the train will now depart Kisumu at 6:00 PM on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, effective until January 15, 2025.
The announcement follows earlier changes made on December 19, when Managing Director Philip Mainga confirmed the addition of two extra trips between Kisumu and Nairobi.
The train now departs Kisumu Railway Station at 6:40 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays, and the train from Nairobi Central Station will depart for Kisumu on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 4:00 PM.
This adjustment marks a shift from the previous schedule, where the train typically left Nairobi on Fridays at 6:30 PM, arriving in Kisumu by 6:30 AM the following day.
Return trips from Kisumu were usually scheduled for Sundays at 6:30 PM, arriving in Nairobi at 6:35 AM.
The train service makes several stopovers along the way, including at stations like Line Saba, Kibera, Satellite, and Lenana, as well as others such as Limuru, Naivasha, Nakuru, and Muhoroni, among others.
Passengers can choose between First-Class tickets priced at sh 2,400 and Economy Class tickets at sh 900.
These changes are part of an ongoing effort by KRC to improve passenger convenience and accommodate the increasing number of travelers during the festive season.
