Kenyan athletes Faith Kipyegon, Beatrice Chebet, and Emmanuel Wanyonyi have been nominated for the prestigious Athlete of the Year Award.
The voting for this accolade will close at midnight on October 27, Central European Summer Time (CEST).
This announcement came from World Athletics in a press release on October 21, which provided details on how to cast votes and listed all nominated athletes.
“The voting for the Track Athlete of the Year finalists is now open across World Athletics’ social media channels and will close on October 27,” the organization stated.
It added that due to the larger number of track disciplines, there are six nominees for this category, although only two will be selected as finalists.
World Athletics noted that 2024 has been another remarkable year for athletics, with nominations reflecting outstanding performances from events such as the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the World Athletics Indoor Championships, and various international competitions.
The list of nominees includes both male and female athletes, organized alphabetically, starting with the women’s categories. The nominees for the 2024 Women’s Track Athlete of the Year are:

- Olympic 100m champion
- World indoor 60m champion
- Beatrice Chebet (Kenya)
- Olympic champion in both 5000m and 10,000m
- World 10,000m record holder
- Faith Kipyegon (Kenya)
- Olympic 1500m champion
- World 1500m record holder
- Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (USA)
- Olympic champion in 400m hurdles and 4x400m
- World 400m hurdles record holder
- Marileidy Paulino (Dominican Republic)
- Olympic 400m champion
- Diamond League 400m champion
- Gabby Thomas (USA)
- Olympic champion in 200m
- Olympic champion in 4x100m and 4x400m
In addition, the nominees for the Men’s Track Athlete of the Year include:

Additionally, World Athletics clarified that nominees for the Field Athlete of the Year were announced on October 14, while the nominees for the Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year will be revealed on October 28.
