Kenyans In Beirut Plead For Assistance Amid Intensifying Israeli Strikes On Lebanon

Kenyans living in Lebanon are desperately calling for help as Israel intensifies airstrikes on Beirut, leaving over 105 people dead and 359 injured.

While Israel claims the attacks are targeting Hezbollah leaders and military sites, Lebanese officials report that many civilians are among the casualties, with homes being destroyed.

Among the stranded Kenyans is Brenda Wangithi Muthoni, from Ndia, Kirinyaga County, who arrived in Lebanon in August to work as a caretaker.

She says, “We are not safe; we are on the streets, and several people have died or been injured.”

Muthoni, along with other Kenyans, is appealing to the Kenyan government for urgent evacuation.

Vashem Kirubo, another Kenyan working as a caregiver, shared that some employers have abandoned their workers amid the chaos.

“Our bosses have left us in their houses, and others have gone offline.

We need help; we are displaced,” Kirubo said.

Wangithi further explained that her employer fled to Switzerland, leaving her behind, and his brother also left for Syria, abandoning her in the midst of the crisis.

“We came here seeking better opportunities, but now we are trapped and need assistance,” she said.

According to Reuters, Israel’s escalating attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthi militia in Yemen are raising concerns of a broader conflict in the Middle East.

There are fears that the fighting could spiral out of control, potentially involving Iran and the United States, Israel’s key ally.

Over the weekend, Israel launched airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen, in addition to Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, after claiming to have killed a top Hezbollah leader.
