The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) is on a mission to hire 4,000 people to work at tree nurseries as part of the ‘Green Army‘ initiative.
The Green Army is a group of people who will help the country reach its goal of growing 15 billion tree seedlings in the next ten years, a target set by President William Ruto.
“Green Army workers will assist in the national tree growing and ecosystem restoration program by raising tree seedlings, and planting trees, silvicultural operations in forests among other forestry duties,” the government entity said in a press statement
These Green Army workers will play a crucial role in this effort.
They will take care of tree seedlings, plant trees, and perform other important tasks in forests to help our environment.
The government has already started accepting applications from people who want to join the Green Army.
KFS also has some exciting plans to use technology in their work.
They will use drones to monitor our forests, which will help them make smart decisions and do a better job of planting and taking care of trees.
“This will ensure data-driven decision-making, and enhanced efficiency in tree planting and maintenance.”
In addition to drones, KFS has been involved in creating the Jaza Miti App.
This is a mobile app that helps track the progress of tree planting all over the country.
“The main objective of the Jaza Miti App is to provide information that enhances science-based smart greening activities by stakeholders in forest-based enterprises,” KFS said.
The main goal of the Jaza Miti App is to provide useful information to everyone who is involved in growing trees in our forests.
KFS operates 300 tree nurseries through the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.
They also have plans to create 41 more nurseries, especially in areas where it’s more challenging to grow trees.
KFS is calling on all Kenyans and others who care about our environment to join hands and plant more trees during the current rainy season, which will last until January 2024.
It’s a great time to make our planet greener and healthier!
