In Nyakach, Kisumu County, an 18-year-old has been detained following a tragic incident where he allegedly killed a relative who had accused his father of witchcraft in Dirubi village.
The father, identified as Valentine Ochieng, later fell victim to an enraged mob that stormed their home in retaliation.
The mob subsequently burned down four houses belonging to the suspect’s family.
According to a police report, the altercation began when the 18-year-old, accompanied by his father, encountered the deceased who accused Ochieng of being a witch.
The confrontation escalated, and the young man struck the relative on the head with a wooden stick.
The injured man was transported to Nyabondo Mission Hospital and later transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), where he was declared dead.
In response, an angry mob attacked the suspect’s home, killed Ochieng, and set their property on fire.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
