The Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has approved the training of 1,048 Graduate Police Constables to undertake Special Subordinate Officer to Inspectorate (S/SOIP) at Kiganjo (600 officers), Administration Police Training College (228 officers) and the General Service Unit (GSU) Training College (220 officers). The course is expected to commence on November 18, 2022.
This will address a standoff between some officers who had won a case in court against their employer National Police Service Commission on their pay. The officers complained of mistreatment and deduction of their salaries against the law. The court agreed with them and ordered the reinstatement of their salaries.
The officers had been frustrated and planned to cite police bosses for contempt.
