The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced important protocols for the upcoming Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).
As the exams approach, scheduled to begin with a rehearsal on October 25 and the main examination from October 28 to 30, the council emphasizes the following guidelines to ensure a smooth and fair process:
- Preparation and Communication:
- Schools are required to inform students and parents about examination dates, subjects, and requirements well in advance.
- Teachers should conduct thorough preparation and revision sessions.
- Examination Materials:
- All necessary materials, including question papers and answer sheets, must be securely stored and accessible only to authorized personnel prior to the exam day.
- Seating Arrangements:
- Organize seating to minimize cheating and distractions, with clear signage in examination rooms.
- Supervision:
- Designate qualified invigilators to oversee the examination and ensure compliance with protocols.
- Invigilators must be trained to address any irregularities that may occur.
- Candidate Identification:
- Verify the identity of each candidate before the exam starts to prevent impersonation.
- Candidates must bring valid identification, such as a school ID.
- Conduct During Exams:
- Enforce strict rules against cheating, including the prohibition of unauthorized materials.
- Maintain a quiet environment conducive to focused exam-taking.
- Emergency Procedures:
- Establish a plan for emergencies, such as illness or fire, to ensure the safety of all candidates.
- Post-Examination Protocols:
- Collect and securely store all examination scripts and materials immediately after the exam.
- Ensure transparency in marking and address any grievances related to exam results.
The council has mandated that supervisors and invigilators must issue candidates personalized mark sheets containing their correct names and assessment numbers.
Any candidate found committing an assessment irregularity will face cancellation of results for the entire subject.
By adhering to these protocols, the KPSEA aims to uphold the integrity of the examination process and ensure a fair assessment for all learners.
