KRA Seizes Over Sh.3.2 Million Worth Of Illicit Liquor In Kajiado

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) detectives successfully intercepted a truck carrying illicit liquor valued at more than Sh.3.2 million in Kimama Market, Kajiado County.

The seizure occurred during a morning operation as the truck was en route to Loitoktok.

In a statement released on Wednesday, KRA reported that officers received information about the suspicious movement of a truck from Kimana town to Loitoktok, suspected of transporting illicit liquor.

Acting on this tip, KRA officers set up an ambush and successfully intercepted the truck at Kimama Market.

The seized alcoholic drinks were identified as Everest Vodka, and further investigations were conducted at the Loitoktok Customs Office.

“At around 6:00 am today, KRA officers while on patrol got information that there was a truck moving from Kimana town towards Loitoktok and was suspected to be transporting illicit liquor.

KRA officers laid an ambush and intercepted the truck at Kimama Market.

The truck was found to be carrying alcoholic drinks marked Everest Vodka,” KRA stated.

The subsequent search at the Customs Loitoktok Office revealed that the truck was transporting 650 cartons of Everest Vodka, each containing 20 bottles of 250ml.

The truck is currently held as investigations proceed to verify the authenticity of the excise stamps, which are suspected to be counterfeit.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of illicit brew activities in the region, with KRA expressing concern over the rising cases.

In the past year, KRA intercepted three trucks, confiscating over 100,000 liters of ethanol in the Kajiado area.

To address the escalating problem, KRA reassures the public of increased surveillance against illicit alcohol.

From July to the present, the authority has intercepted 34 drums of ethanol, totaling 8,500 liters and valued at Sh.2.38 million.

“Between the periods from July to December, KRA has intercepted 34 drums each carrying 250ltrs of ethanol (8500 Ltrs) valued at Kshs 2,380,000,” KRA stated.

“On December 24, 2022, KRA intercepted a truck carrying 119 drums of Ethanol each 250Ltrs (29,750 Ltrs), and later intercepted two trucks carrying 288 drums of ethanol each 250ltrs (72,000 Ltrs) on January 5, 2023, in the same area.”
