The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the closure of key city roads, including Uhuru Highway, Parliament Road, and Aerodrome Road, to facilitate the second edition of the Jubilee Live Free Race.
In a statement dated Thursday, KURA outlined that the roads will be off-limits on Sunday, November 26, from 6 am to 2 pm.
The closure is attributed to the anticipated Grand Nairobi Bike Race, which is scheduled to kick off from the heart of the Central Business District (CBD). KURA’s notice urged motorists to seek alternative routes during the specified period.
“We urge motorists to use alternative routes,” read the notice, emphasizing the significance of the closure due to the planned cycling event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
To ensure smooth traffic management during the temporary road closures, KURA announced the deployment of traffic marshals who will guide motorists along the affected routes. The statement also advised drivers to adhere to traffic signs to prevent the creation of traffic congestion.
The cycling event’s route, as per the provided guidelines, will commence at KICC, proceed through Uhuru Highway, and eventually access Langata Road, diverting off the bustling Mombasa Road. Cyclists will then make a return journey to the CBD using Aerodrome Road.
Aerodrome Road is expected to witness heightened activity, with designated points for water and medical assistance set up in the area.
Additionally, another medical and water unit will be established along Langata Road, strategically positioned between Wilson Airport and Uhuru Gardens.
