Man Dies After Alleged Beating At Trading Centre In Homa Bay

A man has died after he was allegedly beaten by a group of people at Dan Trading Centre in Rachuonyo North, Homa Bay County.

Polcie said the man left his home early Wednesday morning and later went to the trading centre, where he was allegedly assaulted.

A relative reportedly arrived at the centre to buy firewood and was informed that he had been beaten.

She immediately contacted his mother, who rushed to the scene and found her son lying unconscious.

The mother sought the assistance of a boda boda rider, who helped transport the injured man to his home.

However, after a few hours, he succumbed to the injuries.

Police officers visited the scene and examined the body.

Visible injuries were reportedly observed on the deceased’s back and legs.

The scene was processed as investigations commenced, while the body was moved to the Rachuonyo Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the man’s subsequent death.

And a 38-year-old man died after he was allegedly assaulted with sticks at Mukiiri Shopping Centre in South Kinangop, Nyandarua County.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Police said the victim, identified as Reuben Kariuki, was allegedly assaulted while at the shopping centre.

A group that rescued him reportedly stopped at Haraka Police Station and reported the assault before proceeding to North Kinangop Catholic Hospital.

However, upon arrival, Kariuki was examined by medical personnel and pronounced dead.

Police said Kariuki was reportedly living with mental illness.

His body was moved to Engineer County Mortuary, where it was preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and pursuing those suspected to have been involved in the assault.
