A man, 28, drowned Thursday in Nyaminde River in Kirinyaga County while celebrating his birthday.
Kelvin Muthomi is reported to have slipped and fallen at Nyaminde falls as his wife and friend watched helplessly.
George Macharia, his colleague, said that Muthomi had requested a day off from the hotel management to celebrate his birthday on Thursday.
Ngucui Assistant Chief George Mungai said Muthomi fell at around 4 pm and that his body has not yet been retrieved.
“We know the history of this river and residents must be cautious despite this dry season,” Mungai said.
The police and residents are helping in the search for the body.
