Police in Kisumu are investigating the murder of a man who was killed for attempting to stop suspected cattle rustlers in Ngege area, Nyakach subcounty.
The incident occurred in Kobong’o village, Wahanda East Kadiang’a, where the thieves allegedly attacked a home.
A police report from Ogoro police station, Ngegen police post revealed that the victim was targeted for trying to prevent the theft of cattle from the property.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that the man was found dead in his house with arrows lodged in his head and stomach, along with severe panga cuts to his head and hands.
Police noted that despite the brutal attack, the cattle rustlers did not manage to steal any animals.
The victim’s body was taken to Nyabondo Mission Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The area remains tense following the incident.
Cattle rustling continues to be a major challenge in the region, despite efforts by the government to curb the practice.
These efforts include declaring several counties as “disturbed” and deploying multiagency security teams to combat banditry.
In a related incident on November 11, at least seven people, including bandits, were killed in cattle theft and recovery operations in Isiolo and Samburu counties.
Armed bandits invaded Manyattas in Bojidare, stealing around 250 cows and 300 goats.
A multiagency team recovered the livestock, but the attack resulted in two deaths and three injuries.
The wounded were treated at Isiolo District Hospital, while the deceased were buried according to Muslim rites.
