Police in Mwala, Machakos County, are investigating an incident in which a man attacked his neighbor over an alleged theft of charcoal on Sunday.
Mwala Sub-County Police Commander Nancy Jerobon explained the situation, stating, “The incident occurred on August 11, 2024, in Kithuiani village, Ulaani township.
Mathias Mwanzia Kitheka, 35, reported that his charcoal had been stolen and identified his neighbor, Attanus Mutiso Kithande, 51, as the culprit.”
Jerobon detailed the violent confrontation, saying, “The suspect, Mathias Mwanzia Kitheka, tracked down Kithande and attacked him with a machete.
He inflicted severe injuries, including cuts to the head and left leg, which resulted in Kithande’s immediate death.”
After the attack, Kitheka went to the Kathama Police Station to report the crime, where he was promptly detained.
“Kitheka went to report the incident at the Kathama police station, and officers later visited the scene,” Jerobon added.
The police discovered Kithande’s body, which had been taken to his home before the authorities arrived.
“He had severe head injuries and a fractured left leg, with blood on his face. We also recovered a blood-stained shoe from the suspect’s residence,” Jerobon noted.
The deceased’s body has been moved to the Matuu Level 4 Hospital mortuary in Yatta Sub-County, where an autopsy will be performed.
“The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
