A man died while digging a well at Kandongu trading center in Mwea-west sub-county, Kirinyaga County.
Police said the man suffocated due to a lack of enough oxygen supply in the well.
Locals and police said the deceased were contacted by a rental house owner to dig and extend 43 feet deep well before disaster struck.
This was to increase the water supply in the area following the prolonged drought.
His colleague John Muchiri said the deceased became unresponsive as they dug the well before he raised alarm.
Residents used a rope to remove the body from the well before it was taken to Kerugoya’s referral hospital mortuary for autopsy.
