Married Woman Faces Manslaughter Charges After Lover’s Death

When 28-year-old Winfred Mueni set out for a secret meeting with her lover, little did she know that the day would end with a manslaughter charge against her.

The unfolding events leading to the demise of her 30-year-old lover, Titus Njoroge Kimani, in Baba Dogo estate, Ruaraka, Nairobi on September 22, reveal a complex web of relationships.

Despite being married for two years, Mueni and Kimani were romantically involved.

Around 8 pm on that fateful day, Mueni urgently contacted Kimani’s relatives as he lost consciousness during their intimate encounter.

According to reports by Nation, Kimani was discovered lifeless and unclothed in his bed, later pronounced dead upon arrival at the Nairobi County Government Hospital.

Facing charges of manslaughter at Makadara law courts, Mueni pleaded not guilty before Senior Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwan.

The prosecution is building its case around the last-seen doctrine, alleging that Mueni was the last person with the deceased.

Evidence includes a retrieved used condom from Kimani’s residence, a postmortem report, and the testimony of Mueni’s husband as a key witness.

Family members of the late Kimani, who witnessed Mueni entering his home, are also slated to testify in the case.

Mueni was granted release on November 14, securing her freedom with a bond of Sh. 500,000 and a surety of the same amount.

The case is scheduled for mention on February 22, with a full hearing slated for May 30, 2024.
