A 59-year-old mason died after a perimeter wall collapsed on him at a construction site in Kathiani, Machakos County, on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. in Kathiani Sub-County and was reported to Kathiani Police Station at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Police officers led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), visited the scene and found the lifeless body of Joshua Muasya lying on the ground, facing upwards, with visible head injuries.
According to police, Mary Mwikali, a domestic worker at the residence of the owner of the ongoing construction, Joshua Munyao, said she heard a loud bang from behind the main house.
Upon checking, she found Muasya covered by debris from the collapsed perimeter wall.
Initial investigations established that the deceased had been working alone at the time of the incident.
The scene was photographed and documented by police officers, while the body was moved to Kathiani Level Four Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting autopsy. And a 37-year-old man died after collapsing at a bar in Riverside, Kitui Central Sub-County, on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred at around 7:50 p.m. at Royal Club and was reported to police after a night patrol team noticed a crowd gathering outside the establishment.
A bar attender told police that the deceased, identified as Nzau Kiteta, arrived at the bar carrying a blue plastic mug believed to have contained soup.
She said Kiteta sat at a table and began drinking the soup, as he had reportedly done the previous day. Shortly afterwards, he fell down, collapsed and died.
The body was moved to the Kitui County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting post-mortem examination.
Police also preserved the soup the deceased had been consuming for further analysis as investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death continue.
Meanwhile a three-year-old boy drowned in a well at his grandfather’s farm in Kawathi Village, Gikuuri Sublocation, Embu East Subcounty.
The incident occurred on Thursday, September 17, 2026, police said.
Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased was Brian Munene Mutugi.
According to the boy’s mother, she had been with her son while fetching water from the well. After returning home, she left him playing alone at the farm.
A short while later, the boy’s grandfather, John Njeru Ndwiga, went to the farm and found the child’s body floating in the well.
The grandfather retrieved the body and alerted the boy’s father. They rushed the child to Ena Tenri Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The scene was documented by crime scene investigation personnel, and the body was moved to the Ena Tenri Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting autopsy.
