A 27-year-old mason died after he fell from the 11th floor of a house under construction in Kilimani area, Nairobi.
Shadrack Malala was with other workers at the Alba Garden construction company site when he was hit in the head by a scaffolding jack and fell off.
He had hoped to get Christmas pay to fend for his family of three but that did not happen.
He was rushed to KNH where he succumbed to the injuries.
Police said since the incident happened on Christmas Day eve it was not reported.
A team visited the scene and recovered the scaffolding jack plus a blood-stained helmet which were kept as exhibits.
Nairobi police boss Anderson Bungei said they have invited more experts to join the probe into the incident.
He said it is criminal for one to fail to report such an incident and they intend to take action.
Such incidents are common at construction sites in the city amid calls to address the trend.
