Police in Kisii have seized a large quantity of illegal drugs, commonly known as bhang, valued at over Sh.11 million.
They intercepted the transportation of this illicit cargo on a Sunday.
The bhang was en route to Kilgoris in Narok County, hidden in a white Toyota Prado.
Alert officers on patrol became suspicious of the vehicle’s contents.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that “The officers signaled the driver of the vehicle to stop but he defied the orders and sped off at breakneck speed and upon reaching Magena area, he made a quick U-turn back towards Kanyenye,”
The driver then abandoned the Toyota Prado in the Metembe area and fled on foot, evading capture.
Upon inspecting the abandoned vehicle, the police discovered six large sacks and fifteen bundles of leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, also known as marijuana.
The total weight of the confiscated drugs amounted to 379 kilograms.
The vehicle was subsequently taken to Kenyeye Police Station, where it awaits further investigation.
