A passenger on a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to London fell seriously ill on Monday, leading the pilot to declare a medical emergency.
The airline, Kenya Airways, reported that during the KQ100 flight from Kenya to England, the crew and onboard medical professionals assisted the unwell passenger.
The airline stated, “The crew on board assisted by two doctors and a nurse provided medical assistance to the passenger as the captain declared a medical emergency with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) so that the flight could get an expedited landing for the passenger to receive further medical attention.”
Upon request, the plane landed safely, and paramedics who were ready and waiting quickly transported the passenger to a hospital for further medical attention.
Kenya Airways emphasized, “The safety of our crew and customers is our number one priority.”
Kenya Airways has been especially vigilant about medical emergencies on its flights, particularly following two incidents in 2022 where passengers passed away on different flights from Nairobi to New York.
In the first incident, a KQ flight had to make an emergency landing in Casablanca, Morocco, due to a passenger’s serious illness.
Medical personnel at Casablanca Airport tried to assist, but unfortunately, it was determined that the passenger had passed away.
Two weeks later, another passenger on a KQ flight from Nairobi to New York was declared deceased when they were found unresponsive upon arrival.
