Ministry Of Education Releases 2025 Academic Calendar


The Ministry of Education (MoE) has unveiled the official 2025 school calendar, detailing term dates, holidays, and the schedule for national examinations across primary and secondary schools.

According to a circular issued on Thursday, November 28, all schools will reopen for the first term on January 6, 2025.

Term Dates and Holidays

  1. Term 1: January 6 to April 4 (13 weeks).
  2. Half-term: February 26 to March 2 (5 days).
  3. Term 1 holiday: April 7 to April 25 (3 weeks).
  4. Term 2: April 28 to August 1 (14 weeks).
  5. Half-term: June 25 to June 29 (5 days).
  6. Term 2 holiday: August 4 to August 22 (3 weeks).
  7. Term 3: August 25 to October 24 (9 weeks).

Students will then break for a 10-week holiday starting October 27, 2025, to January 2, 2026.

The Ministry has also provided the schedule for key national assessments for 2025:

Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA): October 21 to October 24.

Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA): October 27 to October 31.

Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA): October 27 to November 6.

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE): November 3 to November 21.

The first term will run for 13 weeks, with students proceeding on a three-week holiday in April.

Term 2, which lasts 14 weeks, will begin on April 28 and conclude with the August holiday from August 4 to August 22.

The final term, Term 3, will start on August 25 and end on October 24, allowing students to prepare for the various national assessments scheduled in October and November.

Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang emphasized the importance of adhering to this schedule to ensure seamless learning and examination preparation.

The Ministry has urged schools and parents to make necessary arrangements to support students throughout the academic year.

The December holiday, the longest in the academic calendar, will span 10 weeks, from October 27, 2025, to January 2, 2026.

This break will provide ample time for students, teachers, and families to rest after the rigorous academic year.

This newly released calendar serves as a guide for schools, parents, and students, ensuring a structured academic year and smooth administration of national examinations.
