Members of a family from Vijiweni village in Likoni, Mombasa who lost all their belongings in a house fire on November 7 are asking the public for assistance to rebuild their home and lives.
Isinino Hiroya Mohamed, 33, said their two daughters were taking a nap in the sitting room after lunch when the fire broke out at around 3 pm.
She said that their house girl noticed the house was on fire as she came from the bathroom.
Isinino said she was at their shop when the incident occurred.
“I was from the bathroom when I saw smoke coming out of one of the bedrooms and the kids were sleeping in the sitting room, I ran and pulled them out as I screamed for help from neighbors,” Mwanahanisi Mohamed said.

Mwanahanisi also said she was confused and did not know what was going on after getting out, and the neighbors noticed that the smoke was also coming out in other rooms.
They tried to put out the fire but they could not do it, and it seemed the fire was raging through the ceiling.
The neighbor also made a call to first responders about the fire.
Firefighters from the Kenya Navy, NYS, and Mombasa County Fire Department, were all on the scene to help put out the flames.
She said the house then burst into flames, leaving just the walls standing.
Isinino said the house fire had a huge impact on her family, as her husband, Dololo Athman Mohamed, a police officer working in Madera had borrowed a loan which is still in arrears to build the house.
“Emotionally, it has been tough on us as a family.
My husband is the only one working and taking care of the children. It has affected us to a point that we are failing dismally to cope.”
“We have been temporarily hosted by a good Samaritan, Luka Matheka because we cannot afford to rent a house for now.
We are surviving from well-wishers.
Financially, it is a problem,” she added.
The family, consisting of friends and relatives, has also started a WhatsApp page to help with the costs of the damages.
Dololo said the family’s focus was to rebuild the house even though it would never be the same.
They need cleaning materials or equipment that they can use to clear the debris from the house.
“We need materials so we can at least build a shelter.
Even if it’s a two-room house it is fine, as long as we have a place to call home,” He said.
On Friday, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko visited the family and gave them Sh20,000 which they say has since been helping them for survival.
Mishi also said this was not the first fire as several houses had broken out in flames in different areas of Likoni in the recent few weeks.
The desperate family is now pleading with Mombasa Governor, Abdulswamad Nasir, former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, Kenya Red Cross, and any other well-wishers to come in for their help.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, and the family is waiting for a report from the Kenya Power and Lightning (KPLC) company, who said they were still investigating after they had launched a complaint with them.
Still, it has been confirmed that it started in the children’s bedroom.
Those able to help are asked to call Isinino on 0716631260 or 0729803598.
