Moses Kuria, President William Ruto’s Senior Advisor on Economic Affairs, has disclosed that NARC-Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua and Tujibebe Wakenya Party Leader William Kabogo advised the recently impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua before the 2022 general elections.
In a statement, Kuria indicated that these leaders, along with PNU party head Peter Munya, Usawa Kwa Wote leader Mwangi wa Iria, and former Nyeri gubernatorial candidate Thuo Mathenge, urged Gachagua to establish his own political party rather than join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“Dr. Thuo Mathenge, William Kabogo, Peter Munya, Mwangi wa Iria, and Martha Karua cautioned you against entering the elections without a political party,” Kuria said.
However, he noted that Gachagua dismissed their advice and opted to align himself with UDA instead.
Kuria asserted that Gachagua’s conflicts with these politicians have left him without their support as he now finds himself at odds with the government.
“You fought us, and now you expect us to sympathize with you in the opposition? Forget it,” Kuria stated.
He also confirmed that the country has moved forward, acknowledging Prof. Kithure Kindiki as the current Deputy President.
“We have moved on. Prof. Kithure Kindiki is the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya,” he added.
Kuria’s remarks followed Gachagua’s accusations against President Ruto, claiming he had faced frustration from the president for the past year.
After being discharged from Karen Hospital, Gachagua criticized Ruto for withdrawing his security detail while he was hospitalized.
“It’s unfortunate that while I was here, President Ruto ordered my security to be withdrawn. I was left alone without any officers looking after me,” Gachagua said, adding that Ruto’s allies had even called the hospital to inquire about his condition.
Furthermore, Gachagua alleged that National Intelligence Service (NIS) operatives attempted to poison him on two occasions, in Kisumu and Nyeri.
He suggested that Ruto intended to push him into a health crisis similar to the fate of former President Daniel Arap Moi’s treatment of Kenneth Matiba.
Gachagua warned Kenyans to hold Ruto accountable for his safety and that of his family.
“As I return home today, I have no security, and if anything happens to me or my family, President Ruto must be held responsible,” he stated.
