Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse and his constituents dedicated part of their Saturday, October 5, to discussing the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Concerns surfaced among residents after a leaked WhatsApp conversation revealed dissatisfaction with Mutuse’s actions.
Many constituents accused him of being used by prominent leaders to undermine the Kamba community.
Some residents went as far as alleging that Mutuse had been bribed to initiate the impeachment motion, questioning the benefits of his actions for the community.
“How much did the deal make you better?” one resident challenged.
During a passionate debate, Mutuse defended his decision against the criticism.
He confronted those who believed he was acting under external political pressures, asserting that he submitted the impeachment motion to the National Assembly independently.
“Eye for an eye, are you Kenya?” he retorted.
Meanwhile, constituents urged Mutuse to reconsider and redraft the impeachment motion to include President William Ruto instead of targeting Gachagua.
“For this motion to go through, our friend Mwengi Mutuse must go back to the drawing board and redraft it for the ‘Removal of President’,” suggested one resident.
In response, Mutuse advised those calling for the change to collaborate with MPs aligned with their political views.
“Ask your friend MPs to introduce theirs against the President,” he urged.
The motion to impeach Gachagua was officially tabled in the National Assembly on October 1 by Mutuse.
Following its submission, the Speaker ordered a public participation exercise, which took place across all 47 counties from October 4 to 5.
As the impeachment process unfolds, Gachagua has enlisted a team of lawyers led by former Kabete MP Paul Muite to defend him.
