NACADA Launches Dawn Assault In Soweto, Shuts Down Massive Kangara Operation

A major illicit alcohol den operating in Nairobi’s Kahawa West was dismantled by a multi-agency security team led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

Over 10,000 litres of toxic Kangara were poured into the sewers in the raid, dealing a significant blow to illegal alcohol networks in the area.

The high-impact raid took place in the sprawling Soweto village, marking a direct response to Interior Cabinet Secretary Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen’s directive for a 100-day Rapid Results Initiative targeting illicit brews nationwide.

Acting on actionable intelligence, the enforcement operation kicked off at 0500 hours, involving officers from NACADA,

the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), and an elite unit of the National Police Service (NPS) under the Nairobi Regional Security team.

Although the brewers fled under the cover of darkness, evading immediate arrest, the crackdown left their dangerous operation in ruins.

The team uncovered a large-scale brewing site, destroying 30 twenty-litre jerricans filled with ready-to-sell Chang’aa.

The primary focus, however, was on the production infrastructure vast boiling tanks and plastic drums used in the distillation of the lethal Kangara.

These were methodically dismantled to ensure the facility could never resume operations.

The raid was concluded by 0830 hours with no casualties reported.

Speaking after the successful operation, NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa lauded the coordinated effort.

“This crackdown is a clear signal to the peddlers of death that their days are numbered. The Authority is working closely with all multi-agency teams across the country to ensure full implementation of the CS’s directive, with the broader goal of ensuring the country is safe from the harms of illicit and counterfeited alcohol,” he stated.

Dr. Omerikwa also expressed gratitude to CS Murkomen for his leadership and issued a strong appeal to the public:

“We thank the CS for his unwavering support. We now urge every Kenyan to be our eyes and ears.

This operation is expected to be one of many as the government intensifies its crackdown on illegal alcohol manufacturers and distributors across the country.
